I’m finding that being a part of Ginny’s Wednesday yarn alongs has made me far more productive in my knitting.  I like the accountability that comes with sharing pictures of my knitting progress. I’m currently procrastinating doing what I know I need to on my fingerless gloves (ripping back), so have been getting lots done on my Honey Cowl by Madelinetosh. Once again, I’ve chosen a red yarn that feels wonderful. For the gloves I chose a worsted yarn by Malabrigo; this time it’s a wonderful baby alpaca and silk blend called Andes by Debbie Bliss.

The pattern is really easy, with alternating rows of slight paying attention (purling and slipping) and no attention (knitting). This works perfect for me since I never seem to knit in isolation. Even if I don’t have something else going on in real life, the random thoughts bouncing in my head often distract me from my pattern. So, I’m really liking the simplicity of this piece.

I can’t decide yet if I like the little bit of fuzziness my cowl has compared to the one shown made up in the pattern.  I’ve never knit with Madelinetosh, but have seen it worked up and heard such wonderful things about it, so I think there’s a pretty good chance I’ll try this pattern again with the recommended yarn. I even saw that one of my favorite yarn stores in Portland, Twisted, has a Mad About Tosh Club that I’d love to try!  And, I’ll be in Portland for the Rose City Yarn Crawl in about a month, so it seems like a visit to the store is meant to be.
